2024 XHS Band Awards

At the XHS Spring Band Concert Program, the yearly instrumental music award presentation was held. The recipients of each award most accurately represent the description of each award below, and are model examples for the rest of the Xenia Band Program. 

Congratulations to these amazing musicians! 

John Philip Sousa Award:
Noah Martindale, Trombone, Senior

Introduced in 1955 to honor the top student in the high school band, the John Philip Sousa Band Award® recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication. It was created with the approval of Helen Sousa Albert and Priscilla Sousa, daughters of the famous composer and bandmaster.

Louis Armstrong Award:
Isaac Maze, Trumpet, Senior

The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award® was inaugurated in 1974 with the consent of his widow shortly after this great jazz artist died in 1971. It honors the outstanding jazz musician at each high school.

Arion Award:
Kole Hernandez, Percussion, Senior

The Arion Award dates back to the times of the people of ancient Greece and is awarded to a senior band member for outstanding musicianship, achievement, leadership and dedication to music and the band organization.

Director's Award:
Dillon Black - Alto Saxophone - Freshman

The Director’s Award for Band® honors an outstanding member of the high school bands who have the potential to one day become an excellent leader and musician within their program.
