XCS to Host Groundbreaking for Phase II of Stadium Project
Posted on 06/05/2024

On Thursday, June 13 at 11:00 a.m., Xenia Community Schools will kick off phase II of the Doug Adams Stadium construction project with an official groundbreaking ceremony.

“Over the coming summer months, Xenia families will really see this second phase of the project take shape as the buildings are constructed,” Lofton added. “As excited as our community was to see the grandstands go up last summer, I think they will be even more thrilled to see the culmination of this project this year as we create a facility to support our student athletes for many years to come.”

The groundbreaking event will feature Xenia Community Schools athletes who will take the field this coming school year, including football, lacrosse, and cheer, as well as members of the Xenia Marching Buccaneers. The program will include speakers from the district and a member of the construction project team from SHP, the project architectural firm.

“We have great partners for this project who are working with us to get this project completed on time and on budget — all without losing access to this critical space for our teams of student-athletes,” Lofton added.  “I am glad to say that we will be able to once again use the field throughout the construction process, and that we will be able to host a full home football schedule this fall.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place in the area where the new Field House will be built, adjacent to the Cox Elementary parking lot. The ceremony will take place rain or shine.

About the Doug Adams Stadium Project
The second phase of the Doug Adams Stadium Improvements project consists of construction for four facilities, consisting of two new buildings and two renovated buildings. New construction will include:

  • A 7,918 sq. ft. home-side fieldhouse with a large locker room, restroom facilities, concessions, and a multi-purpose 90-person community room featuring a video display for presentations that  offer a gathering space to host group meetings, and offer basic kitchen facilities.
  • A 2,398 sq. ft. visitor-side fieldhouse with two locker rooms and restroom facilities to serve the visitor-side grandstands at the south end of the property.
  • A pedestrian plaza connecting the buildings and grandstands.
East parking lot and an expanded north parking lot for game-day crowds.
  • A fence, sign wall, and upgraded entranceway to welcome all to the new Doug Adams Stadium.
In addition, major renovations will be made to the restroom and concessions building, with a new exterior to blend with the new buildings and upgraded conditions for wheelchair access. The ticket and storage building will receive the same exterior treatment, with a gated covered breezeway added to shelter the primary stadium entrance.

Funding for phase II, which is estimated at approximately $4 million, is a mix of district capital funds, as well as private donations from the community.

The project is expected to be substantially complete by December 2024.
